Last Saturday, I carved a pumpkin for the first time! It was soooo much fun! Even if it was all a gooey mess, it was great to dig in, scrape off all the goop and seeds in the pumpkin and finally carve out the details on the side. Henry and I were at our weekly Minds Matter session with our mentee, Tony, and for this week, our field trip entailed having all the groups head on out to Battery Park where we sat on the grass and carved pumpkins.
All we had was a tiny carving tool and a palm-sized scooper that was part of a $1.99 set from Rite Aid but they both worked splendidly. Considering Henry and I were both first-timers at pumpkin carving and our mentee Tony had only ever done it once before, I think we did a pretty good job! We even went as far as picking a medium skill-level pattern of a ghost to copy, hehe. And we didn’t even really know what we were doing. We were winging it and channeling what knowledge we had of pumpkin carving from fuzzy teenage memories of American television. Not bad at all!
